Last Monday we shot our first interview for Girls Who Scream with local punk royalty Tina Lucchesi of The Midnite Snaxxx. She blew my mind with her genius of all things punk and more! After spending two hours moving her furniture, putting lights up in every nook and cranny, and generally trying not to break any of her beautifully quirky furnishings, we finally got a chance to sit down for an intimate chat. I can’t wait for you all to witness the fucking harsh, raw, beauty of Tina. For pics of the interview and behind the scenes action check out the photos link. But here’s a pic for instant gratification!!!
The new documentary film, Hit So Hard: The Life and Near Death Story of Patty Schemel screens at Frameline’s 35th International LGBT Film Festival on June 19th. Although I haven’t seen the film yet and will unfortunately be out of town on the 19th, from what I hear and read it is definitely worth a watch. An avid Hole fan myself, I know I will love it. I mean, come on…behind the scenes Hole footage, never before seen concerts, insight into the madness of Courtney Love…any fan’s wet dream. However I suspect that the real draw of this film, for those who are not already signed on as true believers, is the portrait of a life. Patty Schemel’s story of this tumultuous period of time in punk rock history is truly extraordinary. As a gay woman drummer, in a drug laden music scene, she gives perspective where speculation has reined. I am excited to report back on specifics once I have seen the film.
Let’s face it, when your average Jane on the street thinks about Hole, Courtney Love dominates the thought wave (although don’t you dare try to talk any shit to me about Courtney). But, it is a breath of fresh air to find that a film about a not so well-known woman in punk rock (and a drummer at that!) is doing so well on the festival circuit (Hit So Hard Premiered at SXSW). I will also rather crassly point out that my film, Girls Who Scream, also features a drummer, the glorious Tina Lucchesi! I encourage everyone to check out this film at Frameline on the 19th and report back to me.
Hello and welcome to the official Girls Who Scream website/blog. This site is dedicated to my current documentary film, Girls Who Scream, which examines the relationship I have with women in Punk Rock. The film is currently in production, and we will be shooting through to the end of the year. More information will be out soon.
